My foundation finally sits flat
I have textured cheeks and every base I own used to cling to them by mid-morning. Two weeks of the daily mode and the same foundation looks like a different product. I changed nothing else.
Fermented soybean essence · 50ml
Dead cells sit on the surface and flatten the light. Soonbloom Bean Ferment Essence lifts them off and refills what’s underneath — in the same eight seconds.
Two steps in one bottleSlippery for eight seconds. Then gone. That drag is the ferment working.
The real problem
Skin looks fine in the mirror and terrible in daylight. Foundation grabs onto flakes. Cheeks feel like fine sandpaper by 4pm. You’re not under-hydrated — you’re under a layer.
Scrubs strip that layer and take your barrier with it. Acids do it faster and leave you raw. A ferment does it the slow way: enzymes and plant-derived AHA loosen what’s dead while amino acids and beta-glucan replace what you lose. Lift and refill. Same bottle.
Honey-gold, faintly viscous, pours in a thread. Absorbs matte, never tacky.
Why this one
Exfoliates and hydrates in the same pass. Pomegranate-derived AHA loosens dead skin; barley beta-glucan and soybean amino acids put moisture straight back. No second product, no waiting between steps.
Fermentation breaks big plant molecules into smaller ones. Smaller spreads further, sinks in faster, and stays put instead of sitting on top waiting to pill under makeup.
Fermentation is the extraction method here, not a leftover food source in the bottle. No fragrance, essential oils, alcohol or dye. pH held at 5–6 so your barrier stays where it is.
Makeup artists use it as prep, not skincare. Smooth the surface first and foundation stops clinging to dry patches. It sits flat and reads like skin instead of product.
Sound on. Listen for the drag — that’s the surface letting go.
Use it two ways
Then they use it right and understand the noise. There are exactly two modes.
Mode 01 · PM only
Exfoliating
Two to three nights a week, on clean dry skin, before anything else. Massage 30–60 seconds until you feel it grip, then wipe off. Follow with your usual routine.
Before layering · Wipe off
Mode 02 · AM + PM
Hydrating
Daily, after toner and serums. Two pumps, patted in, left on. Balances oil through the day and holds moisture without a film. This is the mode that makes makeup sit flat.
After layering · Pat in, leave on
Massage until it drags, then wipe. That’s the whole technique.
The mechanism
Raw soybean extract is nutritious and too big to travel. Fermentation cuts those molecules into peptides, organic acids and low-weight actives — the same reason fermented food is easier for a body to use than raw.
Fermentation is used as an extraction method — the ingredient is drawn out, not left to feed anything on your face. That’s the difference between a ferment that behaves and one that breaks you out.
No filter, no ring-light angle. Same bathroom, same time of day.
Straight answers
For about eight seconds, yes — it drags. That’s the ferment gripping the surface. Then it goes matte and disappears. If it’s still tacky after a minute, you used too much. Two pumps is the whole dose.
Some people get small surface bumps in week two as buildup clears; it usually settles by week three or four. If it hasn’t, stop — that’s a reaction, not purging, and no product is worth pushing through. Patch test behind the ear for two nights first.
Skip Mode 01 and run Mode 02 only — patted in, left on, no massage, no wipe-off. At pH 5–6 with no acids, alcohol or fragrance, that mode behaves like a plain hydrating essence. Add exfoliating back once you’re calm.
Fermentation is used as the extraction step, not left in the bottle. No esters, no fatty alcohols, no oils in the formula. It’s one of the few ferments that clears a malassezia-safe check.
Softness the first night. Smoother makeup the first week. Tone and texture take four to six weeks of consistent use — that’s cell turnover, not marketing. One 50ml bottle runs roughly two months at daily use.
Yes, on alternate nights. Don’t stack Mode 01 with a retinoid or strong acid the same evening. Mode 02 layers with anything, including retinol nights, and takes the sting out of them.
Every bottle ships direct from us with a sealed pump and a printed batch code on the base. Counterfeits circulate on third-party marketplaces — ordering here is the only way we can stand behind what’s in the glass.
Orders leave the warehouse within 24 hours on business days, tracked from the first scan. Glass ships double-boxed with a moulded insert. If it arrives damaged, send one photo and a replacement goes out same day — no return needed.
50ml of glass. One ingredient story. Nothing else to decide.

Mandelic burned. Glycolic burned worse. This one I massage for a minute twice a week and wipe off, and there’s no sting at all. Smooth the next morning instead of angry.

Tiny bumps on my forehead around day ten and I almost binned it. Read the FAQ, kept going, and by week four they were gone and my forehead is the smoothest it’s been in years. Four stars only because nobody warned me on TikTok.

One lives in my kit and goes on every client before base, especially anyone flying in with dehydrated skin. Buys me a smooth canvas in sixty seconds. Clients ask what it is every single time.

I check every ingredient list against a malassezia database and almost nothing passes. This did, and six weeks later I have zero of the little bumps along my hairline that most ferments give me.

Off my shelf: a chemical exfoliant, a hydrating toner and an essence. One bottle does all three and my routine dropped to four steps.

Two pumps after washing my face, that’s the routine. No fragrance so it doesn’t smell like anything, which was my main hangup. Shaving irritation is way down too.

It works — softer skin, tighter-looking pores. I just don’t love the slippery few seconds before it sinks in. If that doesn’t bother you it’s an easy five stars.

Came off a retinoid that wrecked me. Ran the daily mode only, no massage, for three weeks. Redness down, flaking gone, and I got back on actives sooner than my derm expected.

I assumed an essence would make me greasier. It did the opposite — blotting less by afternoon and my t-zone stopped producing like it was making up for something.

I did the full Korean routine for years. This does most of what the middle five steps were doing. Bouncier skin and I’m ready twenty minutes faster.

Both bottles came double-boxed, pump sealed, batch code on the base. After getting a fake off a marketplace last year I’m only buying direct now.

Old acne marks on my jaw have faded more in six weeks than in a year of vitamin C. I think it’s the gentle turnover rather than any one brightening ingredient.

No complaints about the formula — my nose and chin have never been smoother. I just go through it fast using it morning and night. Would buy a double size in a heartbeat.

Fragrance-free and alcohol-free is non-negotiable for me and most “gentle” products still set me off. Seven weeks, no flushing, and the rough patches on my cheeks have smoothed right out.
Soonbloom Bean Ferment Essence
